cyclopia and proboscis fetal ultrasound

Severe hypotelorism with midline proboscis notedFacial anomalies, in conjunction with intracranialabnormalities, are highly suggestive ofholoprosencephaly. The brain demonstrates a single,horseshoe-shaped ventricle with absent midlinestructures, including the falx cerebri andinterhemispheric fissure. The thalami appear fused, and there is absence of the cavum septi pellucidi. These findings are most consistent with alobarholoprosencephaly, the most severe form of thecondition. Given the constellation of facial andcerebral anomalies, further evaluation includinggenetic counseling and fetal MRI is recommended.
